SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION FAQ'S

SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION FAQ'S

WHAT KIND OF NEEDLE IS USED?
We use a variety of high-quality needles, including the smallest micro needles available in the world today. Hair follicle sizes differ from client to client as well as on different areas of the same person’s scalp, so specialized needles and tools are required to get the most hyper-realistic results.

DOES IT HURT?
There is no way to give a definitive answer to this question because peoples’ thresholds for pain vary greatly. While we are using the smallest of micro needles and penetrating only the upper dermis layer of the scalp, the skin is being penetrated and you will feel it. Most clients feel mild discomfort at first, to which they quickly become desensitized. Some people may experience minor discomfort only on some areas of the scalp. We’ve also had a great deal of clients who have fallen asleep during their sessions! For clients with sensitivity, we offer a numbing application, although it’s worthwhile to note that numbing solutions can prevent pigment from properly implanting into the skin.

WHAT KIND OF PIGMENTS ARE USED?
All pigments that we use are medical grade, FDA approved, meet UK standards, and were specifically formulated and tested for SMP.

I’VE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON SMP – CAN IT TURN BLUE OR GREEN?
The simple answer is yes. There are many factors to consider if a scalp turns blue or green (or even purple). The cause could be incorrect application by a technician, improper aftercare on the client’s part, poor pigment selection or it could be due to changes in the skin over time. For example, if you live somewhere sunny and warm, then move somewhere that’s cloudy and cool, the texture and appearance of your skin can/will change to adapt to the new environment, potentially also changing the reflection of the pigment. Some SMP artists simply use carbon black pigment in different dilutions, which is a major cause of blue and/or green scalps. We are experts in Scalp Color Theory and custom blend pigments for every client. click here for more information on Scalp Color Theory

DOES SMP WORK WITH GRAY HAIR?
Absolutely. As with all SMP, it’s a matter of applying appropriate Scalp Color Theory for natural-looking results.

WHICH SKIN TONES WORK BEST WITH SMP?
All skin tones work with SMP! Using our vast knowledge of Scalp Color Theory, we custom mix pigment colors for every client, regardless of skin tone or shade. This includes those with black hair color.

HOW MANY SESSIONS ARE NEEDED?
You will see results after your first session! On average 2-4 sessions are needed to achieve optimal, natural-looking results. SMP is a gradual building process and should never be rushed. Occasionally additional treatments may be needed, depending on an individual’s skin, especially with certain types of Alopecia or other skin conditions.

HOW LONG DOES EACH SESSION TAKE?
Each session can take 2-5 hours, depending on your degree of hair loss or scarring. Most clients can expect between 2-4 sessions to complete their treatment. These sessions are usually spaced about 14 days apart.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER AN SMP SESSION?
Scalp Micropigmentation is non-surgical and requires no down time. After treatment it is common to notice some redness on the scalp for 2 to 24 hours; slight redness may occur for some people up to 3 days post-session. We will provide you with aftercare instructions as well as the best aftercare products available. And it’s perfectly fine to wear your favorite (clean) hat, beanie or headscarf during this time.

WHY CAN’T I SEE MY SMP AFTER A WEEK OR TWO?
After the first session, it is completely normal for your SMP to fade and, in fact, contributes to the final, natural-looking results. In the second and third sessions, more density is seamlessly layered in to complete your desired look.

HOW MUCH DOES SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION COST?
Our pricing is based on the level of hair loss, which is different for each client. Pricing ranges from $500 – $4,000. We recommend setting up a free consultation so we may evaluate your hair loss and provide a personalized price quote based on your SMP needs.

I STILL HAVE A LOT OF HAIR – CAN I LEAVE IT LONG?
Depending on the pattern and extent of hair thinning, you may be able to maintain a longer length of hair. SMP will create the look of thicker, denser hair making the scalp less visible, both up-close and from a distance. However, if there is a strong pattern of hair loss or not enough hair density remaining, we recommend a shorter, cropped hair cut.

CAN MY FUE OR FUT TRANSPLANT SCARS BE CAMOUFLAGED?
Yes! By replicating tiny hair follicles inside the scars and blending the color around the scarred area, transplant and surgical scars undergo a tremendous transformation. SMP is the perfect finishing touch to complement hair transplant procedures – in addition to concealing FUE and FUT scars, it will complete your new look by blending and filling in any density gaps remaining after surgery.

ARE CONSULTATIONS FREE?
Yes, consultations are free!  A $50 deposit is required to book a consultation which will either be refunded or applied to the cost of the procedure should you choose to move forward with us.
